I am putting ideas together for a careers advice blog I am going to start (interview advice, CV tips etc). However when I am researching competitors and inputting phrases such as "careers advice", interviews and CVs into Google, big job boards such as CV Library, Total Jobs and Reed are dominating the first page. How will I have a chance to gain visitors when competing against such large companies?

Over something different!

It doesn't if it's the personal touched based on your view of the subject or even some kind of functionality the other sites don't

Also the reality is that you are going to have to promote on social media A LOT to get noticed

Also guest post on other blogs within the same niche as yourself

There's always going to be competition out there no matter what type of blog or website you run, it's just the nature of the beast but you can't let it stop you from putting out the sort of content you want!

an old boss of mine does career mentoring and a lot of it is via LinkedIn. Article writing and linking back to the blog. Try and think what you can offer that is different.
